Job description
Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Outdoor Learning Advisor (Educational Visits) to join the Hampshire Outdoors team at Hampshire County Council. We are looking for a self- motivated and organised advisor to join our small, friendly team and support establishments to provide high-quality educational visits. Part time working hours may be considered during the recruitment process, on a Hampshire County Council term time only basis. We know that helping children and young people to participate in safe, high quality outdoor education and learning activities has a direct and positive impact on their achievement, health, and wellbeing. This role will support schools and other educational establishments to help individuals, including those from disadvantaged groups and those in the care of the local authority, to take advantage of the fantastic educational visit opportunities available to them. You will ideally be knowledgeable of the education sector, including having experience or an understanding of the planning/leadership requirements of a range of educational visits.

Responsibilities
  • Respond to a wide range of queries from educational establishments with professionalism and urgency, ensuring timely and friendly support in a fast-paced environment.
  • Coordinate and promote our training programme, including managing courses and supporting key events such as annual conferences and larger outdoor learning sessions.
  • Carry out initial checks on visit forms and risk assessments for diverse educational visits—from local Forest School activities to international expeditions.
  • Support and maintain the EVOLVE system, ensuring it reflects current guidance and providing advice and training to school staff on educational visits and outdoor learning.
  • Work flexibly across Hampshire and beyond, with a minimum of two office-based days per week in Winchester (currently Tuesday and Friday). You may also be required to visit other locations within Hampshire (and the Isle of Wight or other local authority), and therefore need to have the ability to travel, as necessary.
  • We are a Disability Confident Employer - committed to ensuring that our recruitment and selection process is inclusive and accessible.
Qualifications and attributes
  • Strong communication and organisational skills, with the ability to engage professionally with senior leaders and manage competing priorities in time-sensitive situations.
  • Attention to detail and digital confidence, including experience using tools like Adobe Premium (or equivalent) to create engaging resources, and proficiency in Office 365 applications such as Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel.
  • A proactive and collaborative approach, with experience working independently and as part of a supportive team, promoting services and events effectively.
  • Flexibility and awareness, including the ability to work from home or office, travel across Hampshire, and apply safeguarding considerations in educational contexts.
  • We are a small, supportive team who take great pride in the service we offer to our establishments. We often deal with serious subjects but always manage to find the humour in a situation.
Additional information
  • The opportunity to gain further knowledge of educational visits and outdoor learning and attend relevant training opportunities.
  • Hybrid working and a flexible approach to enable you to have a good work/life balance.
  • The opportunity to gain experience from and be part of the wider Hampshire Outdoors team.
  • The chance to work on your own initiative and suggest new ideas whilst being supported by the team. We are always happy to embrace changes!
  • Hampshire County Council is also a flexible employer interested in making the most of your skills and offers a great work life balance. We invest in you through our internal development programmes and training and offer a competitive salary and benefits package.
