Job Description
The Operations Engineer will play a critical role in supporting application operations and production readiness for a large-scale modernization initiative involving a COBOL/Java backend and React frontend.
The role focuses on ensuring operational stability, smooth transition to BAU, and adherence to enterprise operational, security, and compliance standards.
Required skills
- Strong experience in leading application operations and production support for modernization or transformation systems.
- Hands‑on expertise with COBOL and Java‑based applications, including operational readiness and post‑go‑live support for modernization projects.
- Solid knowledge of AWS services, monitoring tools, and ITIL processes, including incident, problem, and change management.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Readiness & Transition Support: transition and operational readiness activities for the modernization project (COBOL/Java backend, React frontend).
- Contribute to cutover preparation, go‑live support, and knowledge transfer to ensure operational teams are fully prepared to take over post go‑live.
- Assist in exit plan execution, ensuring complete knowledge capture and documentation during vendor handover or contract closure.
- Production Support & Issue Resolution: lead and support production operations, ensuring system stability and adherence to SLAs/OLAs.
- Collaborate with Business Analysts, developers, and infrastructure teams to troubleshoot production issues.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and drive resolution of defects and recurring incidents.
- Escalate risks, SLA breaches, and critical issues to the Operations Lead in a timely manner.
- Operations Process & Governance: define, document, and maintain operational processes, including monitoring and alerting, escalation procedures, runbooks, and support documentation; ensure compliance with enterprise security, audit, and regulatory standards, following established controls and guidelines.
- Support ITIL‑based processes across incident, problem, and change management.
- Reporting & Stakeholder Communication: prepare service delivery reports, operational dashboards, and meeting materials; provide regular operational status updates to stakeholders and leadership.
- Actively participate in maintenance, support, and governance meetings, documenting action items and ensuring follow‑through.
- DR / BCP Support: participate in Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity Planning (BCP) activities, including testing, validation, and documentation under the guidance of the Operations Lead.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- 3–6 years of experience in application operations, production support, or service delivery roles.
- Strong hands‑on experience supporting COBOL and Java‑based enterprise applications.
- Experience working on modernization or transformation programs.
- Solid working knowledge of AWS services and application monitoring tools.
- Strong understanding of ITIL processes and service management best practices.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with cross‑functional teams in a fast‑paced environment.
