Job summary

CDW is recruiting for an Onsite Hardware Engineer (L2/3) to support critical infrastructure at a major customer site in Southampton. This is an onsite role Monday to Friday with no remote work, for a 12-month fixed-term contract.

You will diagnose, repair and maintain enterprise hardware including IBM mainframes, tape systems and storage, while collaborating with engineering teams and customers to ensure high availability and reliability.

Qualifications

Hardware repair and maintenance experience within enterprise environments.
Knowledge of IBM Mainframes (9672, 2003, 2066, 2096); IBM Tape Systems (3490, VTS, 3590); EMC DASD Storage.
Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
Experience working within critical or high-availability environments.
Excellent communication and customer-facing skills.

Responsibilities

Provide onsite hardware support for enterprise infrastructure.
Diagnose, repair and maintain IBM Mainframes, tape systems, storage arrays and server platforms.
Support legacy and modern hardware including PCs, printers and custom-built systems.
Applying electro-mechanical repair techniques and soldering skills to specialist equipment.
Troubleshooting and resolving hardware faults within critical operational environments.
Building strong relationships with customer stakeholders and attending technical meetings.
Following and improving documented processes and contributing to technical knowledge sharing.
Working independently while collaborating with wider engineering and support teams.
