Job summary

CDW is recruiting for an onsite Hardware Engineer (L2/3) to support critical infrastructure at a major site in Southampton. This is a hands-on role focused on hardware diagnostics, maintenance and repair across IBM mainframes, storage and server platforms in a highly secure environment.

The position is a 12-month fixed-term contract with a £40,000 salary plus benefits and a £4,800 annual car allowance. Due to security requirements, SC clearance is required or candidates must be eligible, with

Qualifications

• Hardware repair and maintenance experience in enterprise environments.
• Knowledge of IBM Mainframes, IBM Tape Systems, EMC DASD Storage or STK DASD Storage.
• Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience in critical or high-availability environments.
• Excellent communication and customer-facing skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide onsite hardware support for enterprise infrastructure and bespoke systems.
• Diagnose, repair and maintain IBM Mainframes, tape systems, storage arrays and server platforms.
• Support legacy and modern hardware including PCs, printers and custom-built systems.
• Apply electro-mechanical repair techniques and soldering skills to specialist equipment.
• Troubleshoot and resolve hardware faults within critical environments.
• Build strong relationships with customer stakeholders and attend technical meetings.
• Follow and improve documented processes and contribute to knowledge sharing.

UK Security Clearance (SC):

Due to the nature of the customer environment, successful candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintainSC (Security Check) clearance. CDW will sponsor the clearance process for suitable candidates. Employment is subject to successfully obtaining the required security clearances.

CDW is recruiting for an experiencedOnsite Hardware Engineer (L2/3)to support critical infrastructure systems at a major customer site in Southampton. This is a hands‑on engineering role focused primarily onhardware diagnostics, maintenance, and repairacross a diverse range of enterprise and legacy platforms supporting a highly critical operational environment.

Working within the onsite CDW workshop and across multiple machine rooms, you will play a key role in maintaining the performance, reliability and availability of essential IT infrastructure.

What You'll Be Doing

• Providing onsite hardware support for enterprise infrastructure and bespoke systems.
• Diagnosing, repairing and maintaining IBM Mainframes, tape systems, storage arrays and server platforms.
• Supporting legacy and modern hardware including PCs, printers and custom-built systems.

What We're Looking For

Essential Experience

• Hardware repair and maintenance experience within enterprise environments
• Knowledge of one or more of the following:
  • IBM Mainframes (9672, 2003, 2066, 2096)
  • IBM Tape Systems (3490, VTS, 3590)
  • EMC DASD Storage
  • STK DASD Storage
• Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills
• Experience working within critical or high-availability environments
• Excellent communication and customer-facing skills
