A large offshore installation contractor based in Kingston upon Thames is seeking an Offshore Geotechnical Engineer for a long-term contract. The ideal candidate will have 5-10 years of experience in offshore geotechnical roles and expertise in foundation design for offshore structures. Responsibilities include planning geotechnical investigations, analyzing soil data, and preparing technical reports. This position requires proficiency in PLAXIS and a degree in engineering. The role operates on a hybrid model with 3 days in the office and 2 from home.

Job description

Kingston upon Thames, Surrey – 3 days per week in the office and 2 days per week working from home

An Offshore Geotechnical Engineer is required to work on a long term contract basis based in Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey. The role is to work for a large offshore installation contractor and the ideal candidate will have experience of foundation design across Oil & Gas or Offshore Wind and also have experience with Plaxis software.

This is an office based position focusing on candidates with offshore project experience.

As Offshore Geotechnical Engineer you will be responsible for planning, executing, and interpreting geotechnical investigations to support the design and installation of offshore structures, including wind turbine foundations, oil & gas platforms, subsea pipelines, and seabed installations. The role involves interpretation, data analysis, and foundation design/installation recommendations while ensuring compliance with industry standards and project requirements.

How can you support us? Here below your responsibilities:
  • Plan Offshore site investigations by defining scopes of work and selecting appropriate sampling/testing methods (e.g., CPT, boreholes).
  • Analyse soil data to interpret lab results and derive geotechnical parameters like shear strength and stiffness.
  • Prepare Technical Reports, compile Geotechnical Interpretive Reports (GIRs) and Foundation Design Reports (FDRs).
  • Support foundation design by providing input for piles, suction caissons and shallow foundations.
  • Perform Pile Analysis, calculate axial/lateral capacities and assess installation feasibility.
  • Assist in Engineering Phases, contribute to FEED and detailed design stages with geotechnical expertise.
  • Ensure standards compliance following ISO, API, DNV codes and client specifications.
  • Manage Geotechnical Risks, participate in HAZID/HAZOP and review third-party deliverables.
  • Uphold Safety & Quality, align with the companies HSEQ policies and maintain personal and team safety.
  • Coordinate & collaborate with engineering teams and report findings to stakeholders.
What are we looking for?

Experience: 5-10 years in offshore geotechnical roles with pile & foundations design and installation activities

Education: A degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering or similar

Technical skills: Geotechnical data Interpretation, shallow foundations, pile design/installation, soil-structure interaction

IT skills: GRLWEAP, Finite Element Analysis software (PLAXIS or ABAQUS)
