If so, we’d love to hear from you The Traffic Commissioners’ Corporate Office provides policy and administrative support to the Traffic Commissioners.

The small team provides support to the Senior Traffic Commissioner (STC) and Traffic Commissioners (TCs) on policy and procedure, governance, data assurance and engagement.

This post is responsible for the provision of policy and business support to the Senior Traffic Commissioner and Traffic Commissioner Board.

The postholder will work closely with other team members, assisting the engagement manager when required.

As well as being responsible for the administration of TC Board meetings the post holder will be responsible for driving forward policy projects to support the STC and TCs.

These will be varied in nature and could include working to implement changes to the operator licensing regime or other initiatives.

This role will have an important liaison role with the Department for Transport (DfT) and Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), especially in relation to the enforcement regime.

There will also be the opportunity for the successful candidate to have line management responsibility for a member of staff.

Responsibilities
  • Providing policy advice and support to the traffic commissioners and staff within the Office of the Traffic Commissioner (OTC).
  • Seeking further legal or policy advice from the Department for Transport as necessary to ensure that a consistent approach is taken on interpretation of legislation.
  • Developing and drafting delivery policies as required, ensuring that policies are linked to strategic objectives and are supported by data analysis and evidence.
  • Keeping abreast of legislative requirements and DfT policy relating to operator licensing and bus service registration.
  • Providing accurate and timely management information, using this to support evidence based record of performance and predictions.
  • Identify and manage any risks that arise to the reputation of the traffic commissioners or to the delivery of their functions.
  • Ensuring that change is managed effectively and that an impact analysis and risk assessment is completed when required.
  • Great line management is important to us as an organisation, and we will equip and support line managers to develop the skills they need.
