Salary: £27,783 per year
Hours: Full-time, 4 nights on, working 21:45 – 07:15, 4 nights off
We are looking for a resilient and nurturing Children’s Support Worker to join our family home, caring for young people who have complex medical needs, some of whom are non verbal. You would be the person to give encouragement and praise when needed, to be patient during times of crisis and be a friendly face to provide support during the night time. The role can be emotionally and physically challenging and you could be handling difficult situations BUT you could be the person to change a life for the better. Personal care is required as part of this role. A level of personal care would be required according to the child’s needs.
Responsibilities
- Provide support and care which will include levels of personal care according to the child’s needs.
- Be part of a caring team that provides a safe and loving home for children and young people.
- Act as a positive role model to give encouragement and praise.
- Ensure their safety and wellbeing during the night.
- Provide emotional support to allow the children to reach their full potential in sometimes challenging situations.
- A level of moving and handling will be required as some children use wheelchairs.
- Build friendships and trusting relationships.
Qualifications and Attributes
- Previous relevant experience such as elderly, dementia care, nursing or complex care.
- A real passion and desire to support children in a homely environment.
- A good level of English communication skills; Makaton or BSL would be beneficial.
- Experience or knowledge of child-centred, therapeutic models.
- Naturally caring, flexible and resilient.
