Job description

SuperCare is seeking an experienced and confident Senior Night Support Worker to join our children's residential home in Eastbourne. This role is crucial in creating a calm, safe, and stable environment overnight for young people with autism, ADHD, epilepsy, severe learning disabilities, and complex behaviour.

As a senior member of the night team, you will provide direct and primary care to the children ensuring high standards of trauma-informed, child-centred therapeutic care throughout the night.


Requirements

  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or young person equivalent) - essential

  • Previous experience working night shifts in a children's or complex-care setting - essential

  • Full UK driving licence - important


What You'll Do

As a Senior Night Support Worker, your responsibilities will include:

Supporting Young People

  • Provide calm, consistent care to young people with autism, ADHD, epilepsy, and severe learning disabilities.

  • Support children who may wake unsettled or distressed, including managing challenging behaviours such as spitting, hair-pulling, yelling or aggression.

  • Deliver personal care and work collaboratively with the wider team to maintain a home away from home' environment.

  • Experience using alternative communication systems (e.g., PECS, Makaton, visual supports) to engage non-verbal or minimally verbal children.

  • Monitor epilepsy and respond safely and appropriately to seizures.

Additional Duties

  • Support emergency situations, including driving young people in and out of the community when required.

  • Maintain a safe and settled environment throughout the night.

  • Experience supporting children with autism, ADHD, epilepsy, and learning disabilities.

  • Knowledge of PBS, sensory regulation, and de-escalation approaches.

  • Skilled in non-verbal communication methods (PECS, Makaton, visual systems)

  • Resilient and able to manage behaviours including self-harm, grabbing, or biting.

  • Physically agile, alert, and able to maintain focus throughout night shifts.

  • Calm, reliable, compassionate, and confident.
