Job summary

North Devon District Council in Barnstaple is seeking a Part-time Front of House Assistant (Shop Lead) to ensure a high-quality visitor experience at the museum and to maximise income from trading activities.

The role includes duty management of front of house facilities, shop stock buying, sales reporting and maintaining presentation standards. You will work with staff and volunteers to drive customer satisfaction and safe operations.

Qualifications

• GCSEs including English and Maths or equivalent qualification
• Experience dealing with the public
• Retail experience with cash/credit handling
• Experience using EPOS for stock control
• Experience working with volunteers
• Good IT skills with MS Office including spreadsheets
• Local area knowledge
• Interest in museums/history/tourism
• Organisational, practical hands-on approach

Responsibilities

• Ensure quality visitor experience through smooth day-to-day Front of House and trading operations
• Maximise income from the Museum’s trading activities
• Duty management of all front of house facilities and activities
• Shop management including stock buying, sales reporting and presentation
• Support Front of House team including volunteers to maximise customer satisfaction and income
• Shop duties including buying and sales reporting
• Act as Front of House Duty Manager when Front of House Manager is absent
• Uphold health and safety in public areas
• Perform other duties as directed by the Front of House Manager
