About the Job

As a Motor Vehicle Tutor (also suitable for Motor Vehicle Trainers looking to move into education), you will play a key role in developing learners across Levels 1 to 3, full-time study programmes, and motor vehicle apprenticeships. You will deliver IMI‑based motor vehicle qualifications, helping learners build strong technical knowledge, employability skills, and workplace readiness.

In this hands‑on teaching role, you will:
  • Plan and deliver high‑quality, engaging lessons in both workshop and classroom environments
  • Support apprentices and full‑time learners through practical automotive skills training
  • Design and adapt learning materials for diverse learner needs
  • Provide constructive feedback to support learner progression and achievement
  • Guide learners through academic, employability, and pastoral development
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, assessments, and tracking
  • Keep the curriculum aligned with current motor vehicle industry standards, diagnostic technologies, and IMI requirements
  • Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, employers, and apprenticeship partners
  • Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, and health & safety at all times

Ideal Candidate
  • Strong, hands‑on motor vehicle industry experience (garage, workshop, automotive engineering, diagnostics, etc.)
  • A relevant subject qualification (e.g., Level 3 Motor Vehicle, IMI qualifications, or equivalent)
  • A recognised teaching qualification – or willingness to work towards one with full support
  • Level 2 English and Maths (or equivalent)
  • The ability to plan and deliver effective, inclusive teaching
  • A solid understanding of current motor vehicle practices, diagnostic methods, and automotive training requirements
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Confidence using digital tools and online platforms to support learning
  • A passion for developing learners, supporting apprentices, and inspiring future technicians
