Overview

We are seeking an experienced Motor Underwriter to join our underwriting team in Birmingham. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in motor insurance, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for providing exceptional service. As a Motor Underwriter, you will be responsible for assessing risk, determining policy terms, and ensuring that our motor insurance products are both competitive and profitable.

Working hours: This role is available on a part-time, job-share or full-time basis. Location: Birmingham. Closing date for applications: 1st October 2025.

Key responsibilities
  • Assess and evaluate motor insurance applications to determine risk levels.
  • Develop and implement underwriting guidelines and policies.
  • Calculate premiums and establish terms and conditions for motor insurance policies.
  • Review and analyse claims data to ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines.
  • Collaborate with brokers, agents, and other stakeholders to provide tailored insurance solutions.
  • Monitor market trends and adjust underwriting strategies to maintain competitiveness.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to junior underwriters and other team members.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Your skills and experience
  • Previous experience in motor underwriting.
  • Strong knowledge of motor insurance products, risk assessment, and underwriting principles.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in using underwriting software and tools.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to make decisions using data and judgment.
