Job summary

Smiths News is seeking a Modern Workplace Engineer to join the IT team, reporting to the Service Delivery Manager. The role focuses on Microsoft 365, Azure, Intune, and end-user compute in a dynamic, UK-based environment.

You’ll drive projects, maintain cloud infrastructure, and ensure end-user experiences are reliable, secure, and compliant. The role offers a competitive salary, benefits, and opportunities to grow within a nationwide wholesale operation.

Qualifications

• Understanding of networking concepts and protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S).
• Knowledge and experience using modern device management (Intune) and cloud services (Azure).
• Certifications such as Microsoft 365 Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate, Azure Fundamentals, Windows 10/11, ITIL Foundation, or equivalent.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Technical Escalation: Act as the primary point of contact for resolving high-level technical issues and escalations related to Microsoft 365, Azure services, Intune compliance, and other modern workplace technologies.
• Project Involvement: Participate in IT projects related to modern workplace enhancements, migrations, and new technology rollouts.
• Continuous Improvement: Stay up to date with the latest in Microsoft technologies and best practices for modern workplace environments, continuously improving processes and team capabilities.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of cloud infrastructure, including diagrams and procedures
• Monitor system compliance and ensure optimal operation of end user compute
• Collaborate with senior engineers to troubleshoot and resolve Azure/365 incidents and projects
• Be a member of the onshore presence for office-based users
