We are seeking an exceptional leader to join us as Director of Strategy, Transformation & Performance.

About The Role

As a key member of the Executive Team with responsibilities as Deputy Chief Executive and providing wider system leadership, you will drive ambitious reform, leading the shift from traditional models of care to innovative, community-driven services. You will develop and deliver the strategic vision for NHS Grampian, overseeing medium and long-term planning, and ensuring operational success across the entire health agenda. Your remit will span corporate and strategic planning, digital/eHealth, marketing and communications, service improvement, innovation, and cross-system working. You will lead transformational change, support the implementation of the National Clinical Strategy, and champion service redesign in partnership with stakeholders across the region and nationally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver complex, organisation-wide change programmes in partnership with Acute Services, Health and Social Care Partnerships, Local Authorities, the third sector, and Scottish Government.
  • Oversee major capital projects and digital/eHealth initiatives, ensuring alignment with local, regional, and national strategies.
  • Champion health and social care integration and regional working, fostering collaboration across the North East.
  • Provide senior leadership for communications, public affairs, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Drive continuous service improvement and innovation, supporting managed clinical networks (e.g., cancer, respiratory, coronary heart disease).
  • Maximise organisational performance through effective resource deployment, performance management, and staff development.
What We’re Looking For

You are a resilient, inspirational leader with a proven track record of delivering transformational change in large, complex public‑sector environments.

You Bring
  • A Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Strategy, Planning, Modernisation, or a relevant field, plus a professional qualification.
  • Extensive experience in senior management roles at Board level, ideally within health and social care systems.
  • Expertise in strategic improvement, change management, and major capital projects (£100m+).
  • Highly developed leadership, influencing, and communication skills.
  • The ability to build credibility, motivate teams, and foster stakeholder relationships.
  • Commitment to NHS Grampian’s values of caring, listening, and improving.
Why NHS Grampian?

This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of health and care for over 625,000 people across Grampian and beyond. You will work alongside visionary leaders, drive innovation, and make a lasting impact on the wellbeing of our communities. Be part of a values‑driven organisation making a real difference. Lead a talented, committed team at a transformative chapter for the organisation. Enjoy supportive, collaborative culture and flexible working arrangements. Attractive salary and benefits, with opportunities for personal and professional growth.
