Job description

Job Title: Manual Machinist

Location: St Helens (WA10 1HF)

Salary: £28,000- £32,000 (DOE)

Shifts: Monday- Thursday 08:00- 16:30, Fridays 08:00- 13:00

Contract Type: Permanent

We are currently seeking an experienced Manual Machinist to join a well-established company, who are market leaders in designing, manufacturing, and fitting specialist pressure valves and gauges for the Oil, Gas and Petrochemical industries ensuring the safe use of bulk liquid storage tanks.

Reporting to the Production Manager, you will operate all machines within the production department including Centre Lathes, Horizontal Borer, Radial Arm Drill, Ward Lathe, Vertical Miller, Band Saw, Pedestal Drills and all associated hand tools.

As a Manual Machinist your duties will be;
  • Set up and operate machines.
  • Reviews drawings, instructions, blueprints, or samples to ensure accurate production.
  • Takes precise measurements for cutting or shaping.
  • Selects appropriate machine and settings for a given task.
  • Plans proper sequence of tasks to complete the assignment.
  • Ensure that all work is carried out in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Advise on ways to improve efficiency through the 8D system.
The successful Manual Machinist will have the following skills;
  • Must have at least 2 years’ experience on manual machines.
  • Manual turning experience, manual lathes, milling machines and fitting experience would be required.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Able to work well as part of a team as well as individually.
  • Able to read machining drawings.
  • Operate all machines described previously, efficiently and without supervision.
Additional Information
  • 20 days annual leave up to 25 days (1 day per year increase) + bank holidays.
  • Overtime paid at 1.5x or 2x on Sundays and bank holidays (as and when required).
