JoinOur Team as a Mental Health Advanced Nurse Practitioner (Band 8a) equivalentand work within our practices in the Wellingborough neighbourhood to deliversame day support to our patients.We are looking for an experienced Mental Health ANP to join our NeighbourhoodAccess Service, part of the innovative New Models Programme.

You will work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team within primarycare to provide same-day mental health assessments, manage crisispresentations, follow up discrete episodes of mental illness and deliverevidence-based care. Main duties of the job

Role Summary

TheMental Health ANP will provide autonomous, advanced clinical care within theNeighbourhood Access Service, part of the New Models Programme designed to improve same-day access and reduce pressure on GP time. This role focuses on urgent and reactive mental health presentations, supporting patients with low-level anxiety, depression, and other mental health needs, while liaisingwith secondary care for complex cases. Working as part of an integrated multidisciplinary team, the postholder will deliver advanced assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and prescribing for mental health conditions, ensuring safe, effective, and patient-centred care. The role will also contribute to safeguarding, and reducing health inequalities in line with Core20PLUS5 priorities, while supporting service development and digital interoperabilityacross neighbourhood sites.

Overview of Responsibilities

Clinical

  • Provide same-day mental health assessments for patients referred to the Neighbourhood Access Service via their GP practice.
  • Provide appropriate follow up appointments within the same day access model to support and manage mental health episodes.
  • Manage undifferentiated mental health presentations, including crisis triage and escalation, where required.
  • Prescribe and review medication in line with local formulary and NICE guidance.
  • Signpost to evidence-based interventions for anxiety, depression, and other common mental health conditions.
  • Liaise with community iapt, mental health teams, safeguarding leads, and social care for continuity of care.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and coding in clinical systems (SystmOne/EMIS).

Regulatory

  • Adhere to safeguarding policies for adults and children.
  • Comply with Data Protection Act, GDPR, and Caldicott principles.
  • Participate in clinical governance, incident reporting, and service audits.

Personal / Professional Development

  • Maintain own personal / professional development plan and portfolio thereby meeting the requirements for revalidation through appraisal of own performance and discuss development needs with mentor, supervisors and managers, on a regular basis.
  • Maintain NMC registration and professional development in line with expectations of the role
  • Work at all times within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Provide Mentorship and training of new recruits or students as and when required.
  • Participate in the Practice Performance Review process
