Overview

Looking for a senior role where your expertise in medical staffing and leadership skills can help to shape a high-impact service? At Berkshire Healthcare, we’re seeking an experienced Medical Staffing Manager to lead a specialist team supporting all aspects of medical staffing across our ‘Outstanding’ Trust.

You’ll bring your expert knowledge to manage a dedicated team with compassionate and inspiring leadership. The team has responsibility for doctors across the organisation, and you’ll work closely with Trust senior management, stakeholders and external partners to deliver high-quality, effective medical workforce management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Recruitment, induction and management of rotations for resident doctors
  • Rota management and accurate pay calculations
  • Medical education and training administration, including honorary contracts, course approvals, and study leave
  • Managing medical agency staff

In this role you’ll find opportunities to shape and build the Medical Staffing team and the service they provide.

This is a full-time 9-5 role, based at Prospect Park Hospital, Reading. Whilst presence on site is required, we are open to considering hybrid working options.

  • Lead and manage the Medical Staffing and Education team, providing day-to-day leadership, supervision and development
  • Hold operational responsibility for medical staffing across the Trust, including resident doctors, consultants, SAS doctors and medical agency staff
  • Manage the recruitment, induction and rotation of resident doctors (c.64), including creation of compliant rotas and accurate calculation of pay
  • Act as line manager for resident doctors, overseeing rostering, sickness absence processes and occupational health returns
  • Lead consultant and specialist doctor recruitment, ensuring robust processes, compliant appointment panels and accurate offer/pay calculations.
  • Oversee medical agency usage, supporting safe staffing, cost control and effective agency management
  • Support delivery of medical education administration, including honorary contracts, student placements, course approvals and expenses
  • Build strong, trusted relationships with clinicians, service managers and senior leaders, providing expert medical staffing advice
  • Contribute to service improvement, shaping processes and developing a resilient, future-focused medical staffing service

Must Haves
  • Experience working autonomously in medical staffing, providing specialist advice in a complex healthcare setting.
  • Strong management experience, including leading and developing a team.
  • Sound knowledge of medical workforce operations, including rotas, rotations, pay, and recruitment.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
