Job description
Overview

We have an exciting opportunity to join KMPT as a Medical Education Undergraduate Fellow, Trust Grade ST4-ST7 doctor.

This is a full-time post, 40 hours per week, with an option to join the Tier 2 on-call rota for section 12 approval holders. Part-time applications will also be considered. The post is available with immediate effect up until 4 August 2026.

The post holder will be expected to attend various locations in Kent for meetings, teaching sessions and events, but the base of the post can be flexible to suit the appointed candidate.

This Medical Education Fellow post is hosted by Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust (KMPT). The fellowship role supports Undergraduate workstreams concerning Medical Student Psychiatry Placements at KMPT, with students linked to King\'s College London School of Medicine (GKT) and Kent and Medway Medical School (KMMS).

Funding for a Postgraduate Qualification in Education will be available to the appointed candidate to undertake in the year.

This post is designed to support ST4-7s who wish to commit to education as part of their career. The OOPE (out of programme experience) post, based at KMPT, aims to build teaching experience, develop educational theory and practice, and undertake supervised educational research.

The post holder will have a designated educational mentor who will oversee development as an educator during the placement and coordinate opportunities for personal development. A customised programme of training and educational experience will be designed around the needs of the individual.

Although an enthusiasm for teaching is a prerequisite, no assumptions will be made about formal knowledge of educational theory or practice. Hands-on teaching will be central, as will a critical engagement with educational issues around providing undergraduate and postgraduate training in a changing context, both nationally and locally.

Come and work with us in the Garden of England where we combine exceptional professional development opportunities with a tremendous quality of life.

KMPT provides mental health, learning disability and specialist services, serving 1.8 million people across the county. The Trust is rated Good overall by the CQC and Outstanding for care, with 3,283 staff across 66 buildings and 33 locations.

You will be joining friendly, passionate colleagues, rich in diversity, who are committed to providing excellent care to our service users and their loved ones. The nature of our work attracts kindness and compassion as standard, and everyone from cleaners and porters to the chief executive and chairman are recognised as playing a vital role in providing an exemplary service.

For detailed information regarding the role, please refer to the attached job description and person specification. The job description provides the main duties and responsibilities; the person specification details the qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience required for the role.

  1. Teaching: maintain a regular schedule of teaching commitments, contribute to the development and delivery of the Trust’s undergraduate education programme for Medical Students, lead in supporting and delivering the in-house teaching programme for undergraduate medical students undertaking Psychiatry placements, contribute to induction days, coordinate fellow psychiatric trainees, support simulation training and student meetings, and audit aspects of the undergraduate teaching programme where possible.
