Astute’s Power team is partnering with a leading Waste Management Company to recruit a Mechanical Project Manager on a 4-6 month contract for its Southampton location.

The Mechanical Project Manager comes with a rate of between £450 per day.

Key skills
  • Develop and manage the full mechanical project plan from design to commissioning and handover.
  • Oversee installation of heat pumps, hot-water distribution systems, pipework modifications (desteaming), and all related mechanical plant and controls.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including mechanical engineers, subcontractors, commissioning specialists and suppliers.
  • Liaise closely with hospital estates teams, Trust stakeholders, design consultants and other contractors to ensure alignment on scope, programme and site constraints.
  • Ensure mechanical works are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with technical specifications, NHS estate standards and statutory regulations.
  • Lead procurement of mechanical packages, materials and specialist subcontractors.
  • Manage site activities including RAMS review, H&S compliance, permits to work, quality checks and progress monitoring.
  • Oversee commissioning, testing, documentation, and final handover to the hospital’s estates and maintenance teams.
  • Maintain project documentation including progress reports, risk registers, change control, cost tracking and technical submissions.
  • Identify risks (technical, operational, logistical) and implement mitigation strategies, especially considering hospital areas that must remain operational.
