Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform complete strip‑downs and rebuilds of industrial gas turbine engines, following detailed procedures and engineering specifications.
  • Clean and inspect components using chemical, ultrasonic and manual methods, and carry out dimensional checks with precision instruments (videoscopes, micrometers, DTIs, CMMs, etc.).
  • Inspect turbine and compressor blades, applying rectification techniques such as dressing, grit blasting and glass peening.
  • Assess parts for serviceability, refurbishment, coating and non‑destructive testing (NDT) requirements.
  • Conduct component and assembly balancing, making multiplane corrections where necessary.
  • Assemble products following detailed build procedures, including pressure testing, cryogenic and induction heating techniques, degaussing and electrical continuity/resistance testing while maintaining full traceability and documentation.
  • Support failure investigations, prepare photographic records and reports for customers and insurers.
  • Install turbines in test facilities, perform pre‑test checks and in‑situ repairs as required.
  • Manage receipt and dispatch of engines, ensuring correct installation in transport pods and containers.
  • Support special projects and bespoke machinery work – including fault diagnostics, part selection and repair verification.
  • Assist review and preparation of technical documentation to ensure compliance with internal and national standards.
  • Provide training and mentorship for apprentices, new fitters and customer support engineers.
  • Safely operate mechanical lifting equipment (gantries, hoists, slings, shackles, etc.) after appropriate training.
  • Maintain flexibility to support other mechanical areas of the business and participate in field service work at customer sites in the UK and overseas.

  • Completed Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship or minimum of 5 years’ relevant industry experience.
  • BTEC National Certificate or City & Guilds Level 3 Mechanical.
Desirable
  • Experience with industrial or aero‑derivative gas turbines.
  • Knowledge of NDT techniques.

  • IOSH Working Safely or equivalent qualification.
  • Leadership or supervisory training/certification.
Skills & Experience

  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Collaborative team player with a hands‑on, problem‑solving mindset.
  • Flexible, proactive and willing to travel when required.
