Working: 9 day fortnight 07.30 to 16.15 Monday to Thursday / 07.30 to 16.00 every other Friday
Overview
Join a world-class Turbine Repair team, working hands‑on with industrial gas turbines and associated equipment. You'll play a key role in the servicing, maintenance, repair and overhaul of complex turbine systems — ensuring that every engine meets exacting technical standards and delivers top performance for our customers across the UK and abroad.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform complete strip‑downs and rebuilds of industrial gas turbine engines, following detailed procedures and engineering specifications.
- Clean and inspect components using chemical, ultrasonic and manual methods, and carry out dimensional checks with precision instruments (videoscopes, micrometers, DTIs, CMMs, etc.).
- Inspect turbine and compressor blades, applying rectification techniques such as dressing, grit blasting and glass peening.
- Assess parts for serviceability, refurbishment, coating and non‑destructive testing (NDT) requirements.
- Conduct component and assembly balancing, making multiplane corrections where necessary.
- Assemble products following detailed build procedures, including pressure testing, cryogenic and induction heating techniques, degaussing and electrical continuity/resistance testing while maintaining full traceability and documentation.
- Support failure investigations, prepare photographic records and reports for customers and insurers.
- Install turbines in test facilities, perform pre‑test checks and in‑situ repairs as required.
- Manage receipt and dispatch of engines, ensuring correct installation in transport pods and containers.
- Support special projects and bespoke machinery work – including fault diagnostics, part selection and repair verification.
- Assist review and preparation of technical documentation to ensure compliance with internal and national standards.
- Provide training and mentorship for apprentices, new fitters and customer support engineers.
- Safely operate mechanical lifting equipment (gantries, hoists, slings, shackles, etc.) after appropriate training.
- Maintain flexibility to support other mechanical areas of the business and participate in field service work at customer sites in the UK and overseas.
Essential Qualifications
- Completed Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship or minimum of 5 years’ relevant industry experience.
- BTEC National Certificate or City & Guilds Level 3 Mechanical.
Desirable
- Experience with industrial or aero‑derivative gas turbines.
- Knowledge of NDT techniques.
- LOLER or equivalent lifting certification.
- IOSH Working Safely or equivalent qualification.
- Leadership or supervisory training/certification.
Skills & Experience
- Proven mechanical fitting experience in aerospace, marine, automotive, heavy plant or power generation.
- Proficiency in hand and power tools, including pneumatic and impact tools.
- Skilled in precision inspection and measurement.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Collaborative team player with a hands‑on, problem‑solving mindset.
- Flexible, proactive and willing to travel when required.
