Mechanical Fitter / Workshop Engineer – Marine & Industrial Engineering

Salary : £15.00 – £18.50 per hour

Overtime : Time and a Half & Double Time Available

Hours : Monday – Friday, 08 : 00 – 16 : 00

Location : Southampton

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Fitter / Workshop Engineer / Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a well-established engineering business specializing in marine and industrial repair services.

You will be involved in the repair, refurbishment, and assembly of mechanical equipment such as gearboxes, pumps, motors, and rotating machinery. This is a hands‑on, varied role that offers long‑term stability, overtime opportunities, and the chance to work on interesting engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities

Strip down, inspect, repair, and rebuild gearboxes, pumps, motors, and rotating equipment

Perform turning, milling, drilling, and fitting work using conventional workshop machinery

Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out maintenance, fitting, and overhaul tasks

Work from engineering drawings and technical documentation to tight tolerances

Ensure all repairs meet quality, safety, and compliance standards

Support wider workshop activities and assist with continuous improvement initiatives

Requirements

Previous experience as a Mechanical Fitter, Mechanical Engineer, Maintenance Fitter, or Workshop Engineer

Proven hands‑on experience with rotating machinery, hydraulics, or pneumatics

Skilled in manual machining (lathes, mills, drills) and precision fitting work

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical schematics

Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail

Team‑oriented with strong communication and safety awareness
