Job summary

Jackie Kerr Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer in Cramlington to join a growing team. The role focuses on hands-on, project-driven work developing mechanical solutions for retrofit and upgrade projects within the power generation and gas turbine sector.

You will translate customer requirements and site data into designs, plan site workscopes, coordinate with multiple teams, and ensure feasible manufacturing and installation. Travel to customer sites may be required.

Qualifications

• HNC minimum in Mechanical Engineering; degree preferred.
• 3+ years' relevant mechanical engineering experience.
• Experience with retrofit, upgrade or turnkey engineering projects.
• Strong experience developing dismantling and installation methodologies.
• Strong communication and coordination skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical solutions for retrofit, modification and upgrade projects.
• Work from customer requirements, site conditions and 3D laser scan data to develop designs and layouts.
• Develop dismantling and installation methodologies for equipment.
• Plan site workscope requirements, including the positioning of cranes, lifting equipment and temporary works.
• Support crane and lifting studies in restricted site environments.
• Carry out equipment condition assessments and support site execution.
• Coordinate mechanical interfaces between existing equipment and new installations.
• Work closely with Project Management, Operations, Sales, Engineering and Site Teams.
• Ensure designs are practical to manufacture, transport and install.
• Support FEED studies, technical documentation and safety reviews.
• Ensure compliance with CDM regulations and quality standards.
• Provide technical input during proposal and project stages.
• Liaise with customers, fabricators and external stakeholders.
• Support continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the engineering team.
