We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join a growing engineering team in Cramlington.
This is a hands-on, project-focused role where you will be responsible for developing mechanical solutions for retrofit and upgrade projects within the power generation and gas turbine industry.
Mechanical Engineer Roles and Responsibilities:
- Develop mechanical solutions for retrofit, modification and upgrade projects
- Work from customer requirements, site conditions and 3D laser scan data to develop designs and layouts
- Develop dismantling and installation methodologies for equipment
- Plan site workscope requirements, including the positioning of cranes, lifting equipment, welfare facilities and other temporary works
- Support crane and lifting studies, particularly within restricted or challenging site environments
- Carry out equipment condition assessments and support site execution
- Coordinate mechanical interfaces between existing equipment and new installations
- Work closely with Project Management, Operations, Sales, Engineering and Site Teams
- Ensure designs are practical to manufacture, transport and install
- Support FEED studies, technical documentation and safety reviews
- Ensure compliance with CDM regulations, safety requirements and quality standards
- Provide technical input during the proposal and project stages
- Liaise with customers, fabricators and other external stakeholders
- Support continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the engineering team
Mechanical Engineer Ideal Candidate:
- HNC minimum in Mechanical Engineering; degree preferred
- 3+ years' relevant mechanical engineering experience
- Experience working within technical, project-driven environments
- Experience with retrofit, upgrade or turnkey engineering projects
- Strong experience developing dismantling and installation methodologies
- Experience planning site workscopes and understanding site logistics
- Practical knowledge of lifting requirements, crane planning and temporary works
- Experience working with existing installations and challenging site conditions
- Experience coordinating engineering disciplines and site teams
- Strong practical and solution-focused approach to mechanical engineering
- Confident using AutoCAD, Inventor and 3D modelling
- Good understanding of CDM and site safety requirements
- FEED experience would be beneficial
- Fabrication inspection and FAT experience would be advantageous
- Strong communication and coordination skills
- Willingness to travel to customer and project sites when required
