Location: HMP Fosse Way

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm

Serco is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our Facilities Management team at HMP Fosse Way – one of the UK’s newest, purpose-built prisons. Designed with a strong focus on education, training, and rehabilitation, HMP Fosse Way provides opportunities for prisoners to gain skills, qualifications, and meaningful work experience, supporting their successful reintegration into society.

This is an excellent opportunity to play a vital role in maintaining a modern, high-quality facility while contributing to a service with real social impact.

What you’ll be doing
  • Carry out routine mechanical engineering work, preventative maintenance, testing, and repairs (including gas systems).
  • Diagnose faults, rectify defects, and install new plant and equipment as required.
  • Ensure planned maintenance schedules are completed and up to date.
  • Support multi-trade colleagues within the FM team to complete work effectively.
  • Conduct investigations into plant and equipment performance, producing reports and recommendations.
  • Assist in sourcing spare parts and maintaining tool records.
  • Escort contractors on-site in line with safety and security procedures.
  • Always work safely and in compliance with statutory and local regulations.

Essential qualifications & experience
  • Recognised apprenticeship or equivalent trade qualification.
  • City & Guilds or NVQ in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Gas Safe registration.
