Job description

Jackson Hogg is delighted to be supporting a leading supplier of maritime technology based in Newcastle, who are seeking to appoint a Mechanical Design Engineer within their Offshore Energy Product group. This role is full–time and permanent, and the successful candidate will be responsible for the coordination and successful delivery of bespoke Engineering projects across a variety of markets including pipelay, handling systems, subsea technology and defence equipment, focusing on the design of Remotely Operated Vehicles.

Responsibilities:

  • Carry out design on remotely operated vehicles, using understanding of basic mechanics, hand calculations, analysis packages (Ansys, Staad Pro), CAD software packages (Inventor, AutoCAD)
  • Take ownership of design authority to ensure successful delivery of projects, within a specified time frame and budget to specification and quality standards.
  • Ensure compliance with design practices/guidelines, providing input to continuous improvement activities.

Experience:

  • Experienced working in a multi–discipline design environment and able to share ideas within the team.
  • In depth knowledge and experience in design and manufacture of some, or all the following: ROVs, Cable/Pipe lay, Trenchers, and bespoke Onshore and Offshore equipment.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership and guidance to the project Engineering team day–to–day. Ensuring that Engineers have clear project deliverables and technical direction.
  • Relevant, and up–to–date knowledge of technologies and engineering design techniques.
  • Analytical and methodical approach to problem solving with experience of making key decisions throughout the project from concept design through the sea trials).
  • Able to produce high quality work under pressure.
  • In depth knowledge of Engineering design and associated techniques including basic mechanics, hand calculations, analysis packages (Ansys, Staad Pro), CAD software packaged (Inventor, AutoCAD).
