Job description

Job Title: Mechanically-biased Contracts Manager
Location: Exeter (Covering the Southwest)

Overview: We are currently seeking an experienced and highly skilled Mechanically-biased Contracts Manager to join a dynamic and rapidly growing organization within the construction and building services sector. Based in Exeter, this role will require covering various projects across the Southwest region, ensuring the smooth delivery of mechanical contracts from inception through to completion.

As a Contracts Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the performance, delivery, and profitability of multiple mechanical projects. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual with a strong mechanical engineering background and a proven track record in contract management within the building services or M&E (Mechanical and Electrical) sectors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Oversight: Manage and oversee the delivery of mechanical contracts across the Southwest, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

  • Client Liaison: Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring their needs and expectations are met. Provide regular progress updates and resolve any issues as they arise.

  • Team Leadership: Lead and coordinate a team of engineers, subcontractors, and site staff to ensure the efficient and safe delivery of projects.

  • Contract Administration: Manage project documentation, including contracts, schedules, budgets, and cost reports. Ensure compliance with all contractual obligations.

  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks to the successful completion of contracts and implement effective mitigation strategies.

  • Health & Safety: Promote a culture of safety on-site, ensuring all health and safety regulations are adhered to at all times.

  • Financial Control: Monitor project budgets and cost control, ensuring profitability and the timely completion of projects within financial constraints.

  • Technical Expertise: Provide technical support and guidance on mechanical design, installation, and systems integration where required.

Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Contracts Manager with a mechanical bias, ideally within the building services, M&E, or construction sectors.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, systems, and installations.
  • Excellent project management skills with a focus on delivering projects within scope, budget, and timelines.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience in contract budgeting, cost control, and forecasting.
  • Ability to lead and motivate teams, providing clear direction and fostering a collaborative working environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and their application in the construction environment.
  • A relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering or related field (e.g., HNC/HND, Degree) is highly desirable.
  • Full UK driving license as travel will be required across the Southwest.
