Experienced Maths Teacher - Special School - Birmingham

A welcoming and well-structured special school in Birmingham is seeking an experienced Maths Teacher to join their dedicated team. This is an excellent opportunity for a Maths Teacher who is passionate about supporting students with special educational needs and who enjoys teaching small classes in a calm, supportive environment.

This role is ideal for a Maths Teacher with strong subject knowledge who can adapt the curriculum to meet a range of learning needs. Students have a variety of special educational needs, including Autism, MLD, and additional learning differences. Classes are small, and you will be supported by experienced Teaching Assistants, allowing you to focus on high-quality teaching and meaningful progress.

As a Maths Teacher, you will play a key role in helping students build confidence, develop essential numeracy skills, and achieve outcomes that reflect their individual abilities.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Planning and delivering engaging Maths lessons tailored to students with special educational needs
  • Teaching Maths at an appropriate level, including functional skills and entry-level or GCSE content where appropriate
  • Differentiating lessons to support a range of abilities and learning styles
  • Managing behaviour positively and consistently in line with school expectations
  • Working closely with Teaching Assistants to provide targeted support
  • Tracking progress and adapting teaching strategies to support individual development
  • Contributing to a supportive and collaborative staff team
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience teaching Maths, ideally within a special school or SEND setting
  • Strong subject knowledge and the ability to adapt Maths teaching creatively
  • Confidence working with students with Autism, MLD, or additional needs
  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills
  • A patient, resilient, and child-centred approach
