Key Skills: Strategic Communications, Marketing, Public Affairs, Defence, MoD, Maritime, Aerospace, Technical Writing, Engagement, International Relations

The Role

In this role, you will be at the forefront of how we communicate across the global defence, aerospace and maritime sectors. You will shape the narratives that inform our teams, engage our customers, and strengthen our position as a trusted partner to naval and defence communities worldwide. From supporting strategic programmes to elevating our presence at major international defence exhibitions, this is a varied, hands‑on role ideal for a proactive communicator with a passion for delivering clear, authoritative and mission‑focused messaging.

Based in Staffordshire—with hybrid and flexible working—the role will also support U.S. operations on the east coast, helping ensure alignment across international portfolios.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications Planning

Develop and deliver global communications strategies aligned with major defence programmes, capability roadmaps, and international customer requirements.

Partner with Business Development, Engineering, Programmes, and Product Management to ensure consistent, mission‑focused messaging across all channels.

Work with leadership and technical authorities to articulate complex capability and system‑level value propositions across naval, aerospace and wider defence domains.

Content Development & Campaigns

Produce high‑quality content including capability brochures, white papers, system technical narratives, case studies, and multimedia assets tailored for defence audiences.

Support the launch of new products, technologies, and platform integrations across maritime, subsea, and mission‑critical systems.

Media & Public Relations

Act as a key liaison for defence and trade media outlets, coordinating interviews, thought‑leadership pieces, press releases, and commentary.

Oversee engagement with industry bodies including ADS, SMI, IMarEST and relevant defence clusters.

Digital & Social Media

Strengthen our digital presence across defence‑focused audiences through targeted campaigns and strategic channel use (LinkedIn, website, specialist defence platforms).

Evaluate digital performance using analytics, CRM tools, and internal reporting to continually refine outreach and engagement.

Stakeholder & Partner Engagement

Create targeted communications for key defence stakeholders, including the MOD, NCHQ, SDA, allied international MoDs, prime contractors, OEMs and integrators.

Ensure compliance with export controls, ITAR/EAR requirements, and defence security regulations across all communications outputs.

Event Management

Lead the planning and delivery of internal and external events, including naval delegations, defence exhibitions, capability demos, factory visits, supplier forums and recruitment events.

Own event branding, messaging and collateral to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and customer expectations.

Support senior leadership with briefing materials, speeches, presentations, and customer‑facing content.

Internal Communications

Develop and manage an internal communications strategy that reflects our mission, values and operational priorities.

Maintain an engaging intranet and produce compelling internal content including newsletters, updates, leadership communications and team stories.

Enhance internal documentation and presentations to ensure clarity, professionalism and brand alignment.

Qualifications / Skills Required
  • Degree in Marketing, Communications, International Relations or a related field preferred.
  • Strong experience in marketing or communications within the defence, aerospace or maritime sectors.
  • Demonstrable success delivering international campaigns or strategic communications in a defence/government‑related environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to engage both technical and non‑technical defence audiences.
  • Knowledge of naval, subsea or aerospace platforms—including sensors, mission systems, or power/propulsion systems—is highly advantageous.
  • Experience managing CRM, intranet and web platforms (e.g., Dynamics, SharePoint, WordPress).
  • Proficiency with design and presentation tools such as PowerPoint, Adobe Suite or Canva.
  • Confident working independently within a fast‑paced, multi‑site defence organisation.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, including comfort working with senior leaders and customer organisations.
  • Proven experience delivering events from planning through to execution.
