An established high-technology manufacturing organisation based in Southampton is looking for a Manufacturing Process Engineer/Technician to join its Operations Engineering team. This role plays a key part in supporting production and enabling the introduction of new products in a fast-paced, engineering-led environment.
This is a hands‑on role within a business where design, development, and manufacturing all happen under one roof, meaning you will clearly see the impact of your work on real products. Working closely with production teams, you will support day‑to‑day manufacturing activities with a strong focus on fibre component manufacture.
You will tackle production issues, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions to maintain quality, efficiency, and output. Alongside this, you will drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce costs, shorten cycle times, and enhance manufacturing processes through lean and value engineering.
As part of the role, you will create and maintain technical documentation such as standard operating procedures, routings, and specifications, ensuring processes remain accurate and up to date. You will also support new product introductions and process changes, working collaboratively with R&D and engineering colleagues to ensure manufacturing requirements are met.
The ideal candidate will have at least three years’ experience in a manufacturing support or process engineering role, be confident in technical document writing, and have strong problem‑solving skills with a root‑cause mindset.
Good IT skills are essential, particularly in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Experience with fibre components, optical devices, lasers, or fibre processing equipment would be advantageous, as would knowledge of automation, machine controls, or lean manufacturing techniques.
