Managing Technical Consultant - Marine Ecology - Fish/Shellfish (Mid-Senior Level)

The ERM International Group Limited is seeking a talented individual with a proven track record of delivering Marine Ecology elements of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) to join our Marine Ecology team, a part of the Nature and Biodiversity group within the Capital Project Delivery service line.

Responsibilities

Working in a dynamic and collaborative environment, you will deliver high‑quality reports, including desk studies, scoping reports, PEIRs, EIA chapters, and provide specialist advice to UK and overseas operators, governments and regulators. Your focus will be on fish and shellfish ecology within EIAs, writing proposals, and eventually leading project management.

About you

You should be capable of working independently, integrating tasks to agreed budgets and timeframes, and have a passion for marine ecology.

Essential
  • BSc or MSc in a relevant technical subject;
  • Knowledge and experience across a variety of industries including oil and gas, CCS, renewables (inc. hydrogen) and aggregates;
  • Strong scientific understanding and track record of fish and shellfish ecology and the associated impact assessments;
  • Good knowledge of the UK’s marine biodiversity and EUNIS marine habitat classification;
  • Understanding of environmental survey design and marine biological survey data, including remote sensing and ground truthing techniques;
  • Extensive experience in standard MS Office software;
  • Awareness of relevant European and domestic legislation (Marine and Coastal Access Act, Habitats Regulations, EIA Regulations);
  • Enthusiastic attitude and willingness to learn as part of a team and under own supervision.
Desirable
  • 5+ years professional experience in marine consultancy or a technical marine field;
  • Comfortable with use of AI for research and workflow management;
  • Experience of project management, delivering tasks within budgets and timeframes;
  • Experience of GIS packages (ArcGIS or QGIS) to manipulate, interrogate and interpret spatial datasets;
  • Experience of public speaking;
  • Specialist knowledge of a specific marine sector and its environmental impacts;
  • Understanding of Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRAs) and Marine Conservation Zone Risk Assessments (MCZs);
  • Field work experience in sampling, data collection and collation for offshore and nearshore environmental surveys.
