Job summary

A recruitment agency is seeking a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer (Electrical Bias) for a minimum 12-month contract in Skelmersdale. Job description

PE Global is recruiting a Multi‑Skilled Maintenance Engineer (Electrical Bias) for a minimum 12‑month contract with our manufacturing client, based in Skelmersdale. The rate for this role is £19.50 per hour + 30% shift allowance.

This role sits within a small on‑site maintenance team supporting automated production equipment in a clean and safe manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining production machinery, carrying out planned and reactive maintenance and supporting the delivery of production schedules.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out preventive maintenance and respond to equipment breakdowns.
  • Maintain and fault‑find automated production and assembly equipment.
  • Support production by establishing process conditions and carrying out in‑line quality checks.
  • Monitor and control processes in line with Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods.
  • Maintain finished product delivery in line with cost, quality, and production schedule requirements.
  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical faults, including PLC, servo, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Follow SOPs and training processes at all times.
  • Build effective working relationships with key stakeholders on site.
  • Provide shift cover, including night shifts when required on an exceptional basis.
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in machine or manufacturing maintenance (essential).
  • Time‑served or NVQ level qualification in electrical or mechanical maintenance (essential).
  • Strong electrical fault‑finding capability with a mechanical understanding.
  • Experience working with automated machinery and production lines.
  • Experience with robotics (ABB desirable; training can be provided).
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and nights when required.
  • Strong problem‑solving and fault‑diagnosis skills.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
