Qualifications

Title: Maintenance Technician (PERMANENT)

Salary: £28,600- £29,931.20 per annum

Hours: 40 hours per week with timings to be agreed with School Business Manager

Job Description:

Simply Education are currently supporting one of our clients with their brand new Secondary SEND School in the Surrey area (RH1), for pupils aged 11‑16 who require support with social communication, emotional regulation and sensory processing, typically associated with Autism.

As part of their growing team, they are currently looking for an experienced Maintenance Technician to join their team. You will be responsible for ensuring that all matters relating to the continuous operation, grounds and equipment’s are maintained in such a way that ensures a high‑quality site service is provided at all times – while also ensuring the safeguarding, health, safety and general well‑being of all those accessing the school.

Key Duties
  • Carry out site duties with a strong commitment to sustainability and efficient use of resources.
  • Communicate any emerging issues or operational challenges promptly to senior staff, including unforeseen requirements.
  • Log, manage, and complete maintenance tasks using a digital reporting system.
  • Support the safe movement and setup of furniture, resources, and equipment across the school site.
  • Monitor the condition, use, and records of school vehicles, including mileage and compliance checks.
  • Maintain secure control and storage of keys, tools, and equipment, keeping accurate records where required.
  • Ensure all materials and substances are stored safely and in line with health and safety guidance.
  • Attend work reliably, on time, and present a professional image representative of the school.
  • Build positive working relationships with staff, pupils, and wider stakeholders.
  • Assist with routine inspections of buildings, services, and utilities, recording findings and supporting follow‑up actions.
  • Undertake additional reasonable duties to support the smooth running of the school.
  • Ensure the school environment remains safe, well maintained, and suitable for learning at all times.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Health and Safety qualifications e.g. Working at Height, Manual Handling, COSHH etc (desirable).
  • Hold an additional trade / skill such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry or painting / decorating (desirable).
  • Qualified First Aider (desirable).
  • At least 2 years’ of site maintenance in a similar role (essential).
  • Full UK Driving Licence, with access to own vehicle (essential to assist with school transport).
Requirements
  • Mechanical experience or experience undertaking basic machine maintenance.
  • Competent and knowledgeable of basic repairs, using a range of tools and equipment to carry out routine maintenance tasks such as carpentry, painting and decorating, repairs to furniture or the building.
  • IT Skills are essential to operate the school's internal auditing systems and asset management.
  • Must be able to work unsociable hours when required.
