Job description

Job Title: Maintenance Operative – Eastbourne

Hours: 16 per week

Rate of Pay: £14.25 per hour

Location: Eastbourne

This role requires a detail‑oriented, proactive individual dedicated to maintaining a quality environment for our members and staff.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, swimming pool, fitness equipment.
  • Monitor and coordinate preventive maintenance contractors to ensure longevity and reliability of equipment.
  • Address and resolve maintenance issues promptly, such as fixing leaks, electrical faults and equipment malfunctions.
  • Troubleshoot problems and determine the most effective solutions, coordinating with external contractors for certain repairs when necessary.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health and safety regulations and club policies.
  • Conduct regular safety checks and risk assessments, reporting hazards or non‑compliance issues to the Maintenance Manager / General Manager.
  • Maintain all club areas – gym floors, changing rooms and common areas – clear, orderly and in good repair.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a maintenance role.
  • Strong technical skills and knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing and electrical.
  • Excellent problem‑solving abilities and good attention to detail.
  • Physical capability to perform tasks that involve lifting, bending and being on your feet for extended periods.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driving licence and own vehicle.
  • Diploma or vocational qualification in a related field, with experience in plumbing and joinery.
  • 17th Edition Electrical qualification or equivalent.
