Job Title: Maintenance Manager Salary: £55,500 - £68,000 depending on experience Location: Stockton-Upon-Tees Contract: Full time & permanent

The Opportunity

As Maintenance Manager, you’ll lead the day-to-day operations of the maintenance function across all shifts at our Stockton facility, a world-class steel fabrication site supporting our Leicester assembly plant. You’ll be responsible for general and preventative maintenance of buildings, equipment, and critical systems, managing a team of hourly maintenance and utilities personnel including two Team Leaders. This role also carries accountability for an annual expense budget of approximately £2 million.

What you will do
  • Champion health, safety, and environmental compliance across the site, ensuring adherence to legislation and driving a proactive safety culture through audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Oversee planned and reactive maintenance of buildings, equipment, and systems to minimise downtime and maintain operational efficiency. Ensure alignment with ISO standards and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead the coordination of mechanical and electrical contractors under permit control. Oversee tender evaluations, capital investments, and shutdown activities, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Own departmental budget planning and cost control, including managing a £2m annual budget and scheduling resources effectively to meet operational needs.
  • Provide leadership and development for hourly personnel across shifts, including Team Leaders. Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
  • Partner with engineering and manufacturing teams to support equipment installations, relocations, and environmental/energy improvement projects that enhance long-term site performance.

  • Manufacturing Safety: Expert in manufacturing safety, with a proven track record of leading inspections, developing emergency response procedures, and ensuring full compliance with HSE regulations. Promotes a strong safety culture and proactively identifies and resolves risks.

  • Manufacturing Standards, Procedures and Policies: Applies and supports manufacturing standards within their area, contributes to procedure development, and provides feedback for improvement. Understands the rationale behind policies and escalates exceptions appropriately.
  • Planning and Organising: Effectively plans and structures tasks and resources, monitors progress, and adapts plans to meet objectives. Identifies potential scheduling issues and manages priorities in a methodical way.
  • Performance Management: Supports performance development through regular feedback, goal setting, and recognition. Observes and documents performance, contributing to formal reviews and improvement initiatives.
  • Analytical Thinking: Uses structured tools and approaches to analyse problems, compare solutions, and identify key influencing factors. Applies logical reasoning to data to support sound decision‑making.

  • NEBOSH Qualified: Demonstrates a solid foundation in health and safety, with the ability to apply best practice across manufacturing environments.
  • CMMS Expertise: Hands‑on experience in using and managing Computerised Maintenance Management Systems to support efficient maintenance planning and execution.
  • Lean & Six Sigma Knowledge: Working understanding of continuous improvement methodologies, contributing to process optimisation and operational excellence.
