Job description
Locum Consultant Respiratory Physician PVDU

The closing date is 30 November 2025

Royal Papworth Hospital is looking for a Locum Consultant to join the Respiratory team providing care to patients being managed by the PVDU service.

Please refer to the attached Job Description and Person Specification for full detail of this role.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide care to patients being managed by the PVDU service as per their job plan, involving planning investigations, undertaking diagnostic procedures and forming appropriate management plans for routine and emergency care.
  • Participate in MDT presentations, discussions and outcomes management.
  • Assist with recruiting patients to clinical trials, tissue banking and research methodology.
  • Encouraged to submit work and attend national and international meetings in Thoracic Medicine.
  • Participate in regular PVDU on‑call rota, providing cover 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.
  • Share responsibility for training specialty trainees, clinical fellows and medical students, ensuring College and local requirements are met.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Higher Degree (e.g. MD or PhD)
Experience
  • Completion of Certificate of Training (CCT) or equivalent in Respiratory Medicine
  • Significant, demonstrable clinical experience in pulmonary hypertension, including working at a specialist PH centre in the last 2 years
  • Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement, prioritise clinical need, and demonstrate a critical and enquiring approach to knowledge acquisition, commitment to self‑directed learning and reflective/analytical practice.
