Job summary

Bury Council is hiring a Caretaker & Library Courier to support the Bury Library Service. The role is practical and community-facing, working to keep library buildings safe and well-presented while delivering books and equipment across branches.

You will perform minor repairs, drive the library van, and assist with home library deliveries to residents, providing friendly and dependable service. The post is 30 hours per week with flexible patterns.

Responsibilities

• Building Care & Maintenance: carry out day-to-day minor repairs and general handyperson tasks; help maintain secure, well-presented library buildings; spot and resolve maintenance issues.
• Courier & Van Driving Duties: drive the library van to deliver and collect books, equipment, mail and other items; complete routine vehicle safety checks; maintain a valid driving licence.
• Supporting Our Home Library Service: deliver books to housebound residents; provide friendly, sensitive communication to customers from diverse backgrounds; deliver a reliable, customer-focused service.
