Legal Director - Property & Liability

Location: Manchester

Department: Insurance - Property & Liability

The Role

Clyde & Co is seeking an experienced Legal Director to join its leading Property & Liability team. This role is suited to a senior lawyer with strong technical expertise, proven client-handling capability and the ambition to play a key role in the growth and strategic direction of the practice. The successful candidate will work on complex, high-value and often cross-border matters, supporting major insurer and corporate clients across a broad range of property damage and liability risks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advising insurers and insureds on complex property damage and liability claims, including coverage, quantum and policy interpretation issues.
  • Managing large-scale and high-profile claims, often with multiple stakeholders and significant financial exposure.
  • Acting as a trusted adviser to key clients, developing long-term relationships and contributing to client retention and growth.
  • Supervising and mentoring junior lawyers, ensuring high-quality technical delivery and team development.
  • Supporting partners with business development, including pitching, thought leadership and client training initiatives.
  • Contributing to the strategic development of the Property & Liability practice, including process improvement and innovation.
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues across Clyde & Co's global insurance platform.
Skills & Experience
  • Qualified solicitor in England & Wales (or equivalent common law jurisdiction).
  • Significant post-qualification experience in property damage and/or liability insurance work, ideally gained within a leading insurance or commercial practice.
  • Strong technical knowledge of insurance law and market practice.
  • Experience managing complex, high-value claims with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrable ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Commercially minded, with an interest in business development and practice growth.
  • Excellent communication, leadership and mentoring skills.
