Job summary

Long Term Futures is seeking a compassionate Learning Mentor for a Dudley setting to support pupils with SEMH needs. You will work 1:1 and in small groups to help students engage with learning, build resilience, and develop social skills.

Join a supportive team in a long-term full-time role with weekly pay, ongoing CPD, and dedicated consultant support to aid your placement.

Qualifications

• Previous, relevant experience working with children or young people in UK schools
• Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs is highly desirable
• Calm, patient, and resilient, with the ability to remain composed under pressure
• Excellent behaviour management and relationship-building skills
• Able to build trust while maintaining consistency, professionalism, and appropriate boundaries
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Passionate about supporting vulnerable young people to overcome barriers and achieve positive outcomes

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small group mentoring to pupils with SEMH needs
• Support students to engage positively with learning and achieve their academic targets
• Build strong, trusting relationships while maintaining clear boundaries and professionalism
• Help pupils develop emotional regulation, resilience, confidence, and social skills
• Support students through challenging situations using positive behaviour management and de-escalation techniques
• Encourage attendance, engagement, and participation in lessons and wider school life
• Monitor pupil progress and wellbeing, providing regular feedback to teachers and pastoral staff
• Work collaboratively with families and external professionals to ensure pupils receive the best possible support

Long Term Futures is seeking a compassionate and resilient Learning Mentor to join a specialist SEMH setting in Dudley. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning while developing the confidence, resilience, and life skills needed to succeed both in and out of the classroom.

Working alongside teachers, pastoral staff, and the wider support team, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils academically, socially, and emotionally, ensuring every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

About the Role
