Job summary

Long Term Futures is seeking a compassionate and resilient Learning Mentor to support pupils in a SEMH setting in Dudley. The role is full-time and long-term (Full Academic Year), with weekly pay and opportunities for CPD.

Start date is ASAP. You will provide 1:1 and small group mentoring, help pupils engage with learning, and build strong, trusting relationships while maintaining professional boundaries and high standards of care.

Qualifications

• Previous, relevant experience working with children or young people in UK schools.
• Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, SEND, or behavioural needs.
• Calm, patient, and resilient; able to remain composed under pressure.
• Excellent behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Passionate about supporting vulnerable young people to overcome barriers.

Responsibilities

• Providing 1:1 and small group mentoring to pupils with SEMH needs.
• Supporting students to engage positively with learning and achieve their academic targets.
• Building strong, trusting relationships while maintaining clear boundaries and professionalism.
• Helping pupils develop emotional regulation, resilience, confidence, and social skills.
• Supporting students through challenging situations using positive behaviour management and de-escalation techniques.
• Encouraging attendance, engagement, and participation in lessons and wider school life.
• Monitoring pupil progress and wellbeing, providing regular feedback to teachers and pastoral staff.
• Working collaboratively with families and external professionals to ensure pupils receive the best possible support.

Long Term Futures is seeking a compassionate and resilient Learning Mentor to join a specialist SEMH setting in Dudley. This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning while developing the confidence, resilience, and life skills needed to succeed both in and out of the classroom.
Working alongside teachers, pastoral staff, and the wider support team, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils academically, socially, and emotionally, ensuring every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

About the Role
