Job summary

SSEN Transmission is recruiting a Lead Project Engineer to drive the delivery of high‑value projects across Scotland’s transmission network. The role covers development, design, delivery, commissioning and handover to operations, with 50% in-office presence at locations including Inverness, Perth, Aberdeen, and Glasgow.

You will lead multi-disciplinary teams, mentor engineers, ensure CDM/ESQCR compliance, and coordinate design assurance to align with governance.

Qualifications

• Experience of project development and delivery, within Transmission or similar industry, through optioneering and initial design phases.
• Strong communication skills to present complex technical information clearly and support informed decision‑making.
• Mentor and coach engineers to build team capability.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support project teams in development and delivery of transmission projects, providing leadership and ownership of interfaces between disciplines.
• Work with engineers and managers to identify and mitigate design risks in the pre-construction phase.
• Implement and comply with CDM procedures and ESQCR requirements in substation and electrical system design.
• Coordinate design assurance reviews and Gate documentation per Large Capital Projects Governance.
