Job summary

SSE is seeking a Lead Project Engineer for the Onshore team in Scotland. The role leads multidisciplinary engineers to deliver safe, innovative transmission solutions and to support a Net Zero delivery framework.

Based in Scotland with a 50% office presence across Perth, Inverness and Aberdeen, you will provide technical leadership, governance and risk management throughout the project lifecycle while mentoring engineers and collaborating with stakeholders for value-driven outcomes.

Qualifications

• Experience leading complex engineering projects in transmission or comparable infrastructure.
• Experience coordinating multiple engineering disciplines and interfaces.
• Knowledge of substations, overhead lines, and underground cables.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders.
• Degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Civil engineering; Chartered status preferred or pursuing.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver major transmission projects.
• Provide engineering leadership, governance and assurance throughout the project lifecycle.
• Collaborate with project teams and stakeholders to develop practical, innovative solutions, balancing safety, quality and cost.
• Champion Safety by Design and fulfil CDM responsibilities, mitigating design risks early.
• Mentor and develop engineers across the team through coaching and collaboration.
