Job summary

SSE is seeking a Lead Project Engineer to head multidisciplinary teams delivering major transmission infrastructure in Scotland. You will provide engineering leadership, governance and risk management across the project lifecycle to ensure safe, compliant and value-driven solutions.

The role focuses on substations, overhead lines and underground cables, with a hybrid working pattern and 50% office presence in Scotland. Competitive salary and benefits apply.

Qualifications

• Experience leading the development and delivery of complex engineering projects within electricity transmission or comparable infrastructure.
• Experience across multiple engineering disciplines, coordinating technical interfaces and delivering high-quality solutions.
• Technical knowledge of electricity transmission infrastructure including substations, overhead lines and underground cables.
• Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or related engineering; Chartered status or willingness to work towards it would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver major transmission infrastructure projects, fostering collaboration to achieve successful outcomes.
• Provide engineering leadership, governance and assurance across the project lifecycle, managing technical risk and ensuring compliance with standards and legislation.
• Collaborate with project teams and stakeholders to develop practical, innovative engineering solutions balancing safety, quality, schedule, operability and value for money.
• Champion Safety by Design and fulfill CDM responsibilities, identifying and mitigating design risks from the earliest stages.
• Build strong relationships with colleagues, contractors, operational users and external stakeholders, mentoring engineers across the team.
