Job summary

A leading environmental services company in Greater London is looking for a Lead Maintenance Engineer to oversee maintenance activities focused on sustainable solutions. You'll coordinate workflows, supervise technicians, and ensure equipment is optimally maintained. Candidates should have a level 3 qualification in mechanical or electrical maintenance and experience in a relevant manufacturing environment. Hours: 42.5 hours (average) per week, 4 on x 4 off days only

What you'll be doing
  • Lead day-to-day and shutdown maintenance activities to maximise plant throughput and minimise downtime.
  • Coordinate workflow between two shifts, plan weekly maintenance, and allocate weekend shutdown tasks.
  • Supervise on-shift technicians, assigning labour across PPM, process issues, and breakdowns.
  • Plan, schedule, and organise all maintenance activities using SAP CMMS to optimise plant uptime and availability.
  • Carry out both planned and reactive maintenance on a wide range of mechanical, electrical, and process equipment.
  • Manage service contractors, including inductions, work permits, RAMS reviews, and compliance with safe working practices.
  • Oversee parts identification, ordering, and repairs to support continuous operations and reduce disruption.
  • Inspect equipment and work areas for hazards or defects, completing required documentation and reporting issues to the Maintenance Manager.
What we're looking for
  • The successful candidate will possess a City & Guilds or NVQ level 3 in mechanical and/or electrical maintenance or a recognised formal apprenticeship with an ONC/HNC or Btech in the relevant discipline. You will have experience in process manufacturing, production industry or food manufacturing facility.
  • The ideal candidate will have proven experience of working at a high level and fully conversant with material handling equipment, be experienced with conveyors, baling equipment, Low Voltage equipment, pumps, motors, plant auxiliaries, hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical and optical separation, magnetic and Eddy current separation technology. Comprehensive practical experience in maintenance within a process industry preferably gained in a recycling environment, but not essential.
  • You will be enthusiastic and a competent problem solver with a practical approach to engineering problems, be able to demonstrate an analytical approach to investigation, allied with a practical ability to resolving engineering problems. Experience in low voltage power systems, control systems and Software (DCS/SCADA/HMI/PLC), CMMS / AMMS systems would be advantageous.
