Job description

Location: Home based with frequent travel across North-West Wales and occasional travel to North-East and mid-Wales,

Main Responsibilities
  • Support the Large Heath Project Officer (Wales) to complete bespoke monitoring of bog restoration to assess the suitability for Large Heath habitat.
  • Help support volunteers and partners to complete Large Heath monitoring and habitat assessments following relevant H&S procedures.
  • Collate data to input into QGIS to allow for future mapping exercises to be completed to identify opportunities for future restoration efforts within the protected sites network.
  • Support the delivery of RSPB peatland work, as identified as part of the training plan, to gain further work experience.
  • Complete habitat assessments of the management interventions undertaken during bog restoration to evaluate their suitability for the Large Heath.
  • Support volunteers to complete Large Heath surveys and habitat assessments to a set methodology at core sites.
  • Support the work of specialist survey contractors and evaluation consultant to ensure that their outputs are of the required standard and accomplished within schedule.
  • Collate and input data into QGIS to allow habitat quality mapping exercises to create landscape-scale focus to identify opportunities for future restoration within the protected sites network.
  • Support the Large Heath Officer (Wales) to create recommendations for future restoration works to benefit the Large Heath butterfly.
  • Ensure all findings of the development phase are compiled so that they can eventually feed into a "Large Heath Strategy for Wales".
  • Support the Large Heath Officer (Wales) to disseminate the impact of BC's work including giving presentations, media interviews, preparation of reports, and through social media.
  • Seek to promote the involvement of young people with Large Heath surveying, which currently form an under-served group.
