As a Laboratory Technician within our Genetic Toxicology team based at Alconbury, near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire you will play an integral part in achieving our mission by providing assistance in the performing and data recording of any aspects of departmental assays, both in vitro and in vivo where applicable, in compliance with appropriate SOPs (standard operating procedures), GxPs (good practice) and regulatory guidelines.

Whilst training you will learn a broad range of standard technical laboratory skills and techniques including how to work to recognised regulatory standards.

The main responsibilities will include:
  • Ensuring compliance by performing study work in accordance with Study Plans, relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and GLP

  • Meeting deadlines by effectively planning and completing routine and assigned tasks in a timely manner

  • Ensuring quality through accurate data recording and performing QC checks following appropriate training

  • Ensuring safe working practices in accordance with HASAWA and COSHH Identifying opportunities for continuous improvements

  • Reporting any difficulty, uncertainty or unexpected finding to the Study Director and/or senior Genetic Toxicology personnel

Operational responsibilities:
  • Learn a broad range of standard technical laboratory skills and techniques

  • Take responsibility for routine tasks e.g. maintenance of cell stocks, reagent/media preparation, calibration checks, slide preparation

  • Conduct regular stock takes in relevant laboratory areas and order appropriate lab products

  • Show familiarity with the basic study set-up, preparation of study files and other documentation for study use e.g. controlled forms

  • To learn to conduct GLP studies: Studies that may be performed include, but not limited to:- Ames test, In vitro/In vivo micronucleus test, Chromosome aberration assay, Mouse Lymphoma assay, COMET assay, microbiology and in vitro safety assessment study types

Education / Qualifications:
  • Educated to BSc level in a relevant life science subject

Skills / Experience:
  • Team working skills

  • Effective communication skills

  • Ability to follow instructions with excellent attention to detail

  • Previous laboratory support experience is desirable with knowledge of aseptic techniques and GLP advantageous
