Trainee Building Services Engineer

Penguin Recruitment are proud to be representing a multi-disciplinary company who are seeking a motivated Trainee Building Services Engineer to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity to develop technical skills, gain hands‑on project experience, and build a strong foundation within the industry.

About the Role

Working closely with Team Leaders and experienced engineers, you will support the design and development of building services across multiple projects. You will assist with engineering calculations, drawings, and coordination using AutoCAD and Revit, while developing your understanding of building systems, industry standards, and engineering principles.

Key Responsibilities
Design & Technical Work
  • Produce schematics, elevations, and detailed drawings in AutoCAD/Revit following team standards.
  • Assist Team Leaders in managing design progress and meeting project deadlines.
  • Complete engineering calculations and work toward understanding their principles.
  • Develop an understanding of the overall design, systems, and project requirements.
  • Carry out primary checks of your own work using standard procedures and checklists.
  • Coordinate designs with other engineering disciplines.
  • Organise and issue drawings and documents, ensuring accurate filing of PDFs/DWGs.
  • Follow drawing issue and quality‑control procedures, including use of master drawings.
  • Keep up to date with British Standards, industry guides, and approved documents.
  • Support the team with other AutoCAD/Revit tasks as needed.
  • Progress towards a broader understanding of other building services disciplines.
Communication
  • Maintain regular progress updates with your Team Leader.
General Responsibilities
  • Complete timesheets accurately and promptly.
  • Maintain a professional and business‑like approach at all times.
  • Adhere to company policies, health & safety requirements, and confidentiality standards.
  • Take a proactive approach to your own learning and development.
  • Participate effectively as a team member to support shared goals.
  • Carry out additional tasks as reasonably requested by management.
