The post holder will work with the consultants in Sexual Health and will play an active role in all aspects of work within the service. The ability to work within a multidisciplinary team is essential. Applicants must be both flexible in their approach and be ready to meet the challenges presented by the evolving health service changes in South Yorkshire.
The team has delivered an integrated Genito Urinary Medicine and Contraception Sexual Health Service since 1 April 2014 and is part of the Family Health Directorate. The Directorate has an inclusive culture and the post holder will work as part of a collaborative team with peer support from Consultant colleagues being readily available.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in all aspects of work including undertaking clinics in order to achieve the three key public health outcomes: reducing HIV late diagnosis, improving Chlamydia detection rates and reducing teenage pregnancy.

The team delivers integrated Contraception and Sexual Health Services. The Directorate has an inclusive culture and the post holder will work as part of a collaborative team with peer support from Consultant colleagues being readily available.
The Directorate currently provides this post with dedicated secretarial support and additional service administrative support within an adequately equipped office.
Cover arrangements for leave periods are in place and are provided through local agreement with Consultant Colleagues working in the integrated Service.
There are 2.1 WTE Consultant posts at Rotherham and the post holder will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of a clinical sexual health service.
Patients requiring admission are either admitted under the care of general physicians at Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust (with appropriate input from the consultants regarding clinical management) or (for more complex HIV cases) they are admitted to Wards E1 and E2 at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital under the care of the Sheffield HIV Service. There is no on-call commitment at Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust.
The Trust Grade Doctor post is part of the medical team which is made up of:

The Post
The post holder would be expected to undertake clinics in order to achieve the three key public health outcomes; reducing HIV late diagnosis, improving Chlamydia detection rates and reducing teenage pregnancy.
This post holder will provide sexually transmitted infection care and contraception in Rotherham.
The post holder will be expected to work in partnership with all other members of the multidisciplinary team to deliver clinically effective, safe, high quality Sexual Health Services to the population served.
All appointees are required to participate in all departmental activities, including audit and administrative responsibilities.
1. Clinical
The Department provides high quality management of sexually transmitted infections including HIV and promotion of sexual health for the population of 252,000 in Rotherham. It has strong links with Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Colposcopy, Dermatology and Primary Care to deliver comprehensive and effective sexual health care.
The post holder will be expected to participate in the delivery of clinics that run on an appointment system and triage to prioritise walk-in or urgent cases. The clinics will involve both routine STI and contraception clinics at TRFT and outreach locations.
2. Teaching and Education
The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust is committed to teaching and education, facilitating a wide variety of training opportunities to various staff groups, including medical students, nurse students, qualified nurses, junior doctors and other allied health care professionals. It supports New Deal on Junior Doctors Hours European Working Time Directives and aims to maintain appropriate hours, protected teaching time, and accreditation where applicable.
The department trains VTS GP trainee doctors as part of a rotation with Dermatology. Active learning is encouraged, with opportunities to research and present on topical issues. The post holder will participate in Grand Rounds and support undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training in Rotherham. The service has links with Sheffield Teaching Hospitals; participation in research and service development is encouraged.
The Trust has a Research and Development Department with strong links to the Universities of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam. Research is encouraged and trainees are mentored in audit and research activities. Participation in clinical audit is a professional requirement with protected time. The post holder is expected to attend and participate in these sessions and adhere to clinical governance guidance. Involvement in national audits such as NCEPOD and CESDI is encouraged for senior staff. The post holder is encouraged to lead innovative audit methods and link to education.
Research is performed within the Trust; clinical research is encouraged subject to Local Ethical Committee approval and usual financial requirements. The post holder will comply with research governance principles.
CPD is supported for the Consultant workforce and forms part of the service agreement with the Regional Postgraduate Dean. The Trust supports doctors in developing interests beyond clinical work, including management, audit, research and education, including funding for CPD activities. Weekly grand rounds are held and attendance is encouraged.
The post holder has the opportunity to access CPD and will be encouraged to do so. The department has Associate Teaching Hospital status and a strong track record for training and student attachment. The post holder is encouraged to participate in CPD opportunities.
The post holder will work with the team to optimise utilization of clinical sessions, contribute to achieving targets for the Clinical Service Units, and help develop modernised working practices.
The Trust's appraisal and job planning process supports professional development and performance reviews through a supportive process that feeds into revalidation.
The post holder will be expected to attend and participate in governance (monthly) and clinical effectiveness (bi-monthly) meetings; additional meetings by negotiation.
Clinic time is allocated in sessions (blocks of time) and doctors are encouraged to ensure optimum utilization of the sessions allocated to them, in terms of time and productivity.
The post holder will be expected to contribute towards achieving the key performance indicators for the specialty by completing their duties as professionally and efficiently as possible.
Management & Service Development
In conjunction with the Director of Clinical Services, Consultant & Senior colleagues, to play a full part in developing and implementing new ways of working in line with modernisation principles that are fit for the future. Working collaboratively with Consultant and Senior colleagues, to take responsibility for the best use of Departmental staffing and other resources to ensure the maximum efficiency of the Department. To observe the Trust’s agreed policies and procedures, in particular in relation to managing staff, and to follow the Trust’s Standing Orders and Standing Financial Instructions. These policies and procedures have been drawn up in consultation with the profession on clinical matters.
No on call duties for this post.
