Head of Pharmacy, University of Bath MPharm at the University of Plymouth
University of Bath – Life Sciences

Location: Bath, Plymouth

Salary: Competitive Package

Hours: Full Time

Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract

Placed On: 11 January 2024

Job Ref: ED11330

The Universities of Bath and Plymouth are collaborating with NHS England (Workforce, Training and Education Directorate) to establish a new School of Pharmacy located at the University of Plymouth.

This innovative approach takes the highly successful Bath MPharm and delivers it on site in new purpose-built facilities from September 2024. This venture is strongly supported by the wider pharmacy community and will represent a major step forward in supporting the pharmacy workforce in the southwest of England.

We are recruiting for a body of staff who will be located primarily in Plymouth but employed by the University of Bath, delivering this new Bath MPharm degree and the first step in that is to seek an outstanding leader to deliver this exciting and innovative initiative.

About the role:

The Head of Pharmacy will take overall strategic and operational responsibility for the implementation and delivery of the Bath MPharm course at the University of Plymouth. You will manage the contractual arrangements with relevant stakeholders, particularly the University of Plymouth and NHS England. You will manage both the delivery of the degree and the support of the students so as to ensure that they have an experience and are educated to a standard fully commensurate with that expected by students at the University of Bath.

The position may be teaching only or may be a teaching and research position, depending on the skill set of the successful applicant or applicants.

Recognising the unusual nature of the role is reflected by a willingness to show flexibility in working practices and so applications from suitably qualified candidates seeking a role which offers hybrid working (a working presence at the campuses of both Universities will be required), full or part time working job sharing and other forms of flexible employment are welcome.

It is anticipated that the successful candidate will take up the role in Spring 2024.

Interviews are expected to take place in February.

About you:

  • You will be a GPhC registered pharmacist with extensive experience in delivering the MPharm degree with a track record in a leadership/management role.
  • A track record of leadership and successful management within a School/Department of Pharmacy.
  • An ability to demonstrate excellence and innovation in pharmaceutical education via outstanding delivery.
  • Experience in setting up new projects and innovating within the pharmaceutical professional arena.
  • A track record of successful interaction with the regulatory body (the GPhC) and the broader pharmaceutical profession.
