Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Miscanthus Bioenergy & Soil Remediation

Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Miscanthus BioEnergy & Soil Remediation. The role supports a collaborative project funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCDO) Innovate Ukraine Programme, aiming to increase Miscanthus biomass production in Ukraine and restore contaminated land through phytoremediation.

About the Post

• Full‑time, fixed‑term appointment up to 18 months, depending on start date.
• Location: University of Liverpool, United Kingdom.
• Application deadline: 11 January 2026.

Responsibilities
  • Lead field and greenhouse studies on the biofuel crop Miscanthus, including trial set‑up, monitoring and data collection.
  • Quantify soil and plant toxicity levels and assess plant morphological and physiological responses.
  • Analyze data using Genotype × Environment × Treatment designs and prepare results for publication.
  • Write and publish academic papers in international peer‑reviewed journals.
  • Supervise and advise junior research staff and graduate students.
  • Contribute to project management tasks and interdisciplinary collaboration within the group.
Qualifications
  • PhD or equivalent in plant biology, crop science, environmental science or related field.
  • Proven experience in plant field research and experimental design.
  • Strong record of publication in peer‑reviewed journals.
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills, with familiarity in statistical genetics and genotype‑environment interaction analysis.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, and a supportive attitude toward mentoring.
  • Desire to explore cold tolerance in Miscanthus varieties and extend research beyond core deliverables.
