Job summary

Matrix Academy Trust is seeking an IT Technician to provide high-quality technical support across our schools in the Walsall area. The role covers desktop support, classroom assistance, server maintenance, and user account management to keep learning moving smoothly.

You will travel between Smestow Academy and partner schools, offering hands-on help in person, by phone, and remotely, with a flexible pattern across sites. A strong customer service ethos is essential.

Qualifications

  • GCSE English & Maths (grade C) or equivalent.
  • A Levels or IT-related qualifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Providing on-site, remote and telephone IT support.
  • Logging, investigating and resolving ICT queries within SLAs.
  • Installing, upgrading and maintaining hardware and software.
  • Managing MS Teams, Outlook Groups and network user accounts.
  • Maintaining shared network areas and digital housekeeping.
  • Supporting events: assemblies, training sessions and parent evenings.
  • Travel between Smestow Academy and partner schools as needed.

Job description

Do you have a passion for technology and a talent for solving IT problems? We're looking for a proactive IT Technician to provide high-quality technical support across our Trust, helping both staff and students work more efficiently. If you thrive on variety, enjoy helping others, and have strong technical skills, we'd love to hear from you. As part of our central IT support team, you'll be the go-to person for resolving desktop issues, managing upgrades, and keeping our IT systems running smoothly. From assisting in classrooms to maintaining servers, you'll play a vital role in ensuring our technology empowers learning every day. Working Pattern The successful candidate will provide support across our Walsall and Wolverhampton Schools including Smestow Academy, Pool Hayes Primary School, Elmwood School and Bloxwich Primary School. Your main base will be Smestow Academy. You will be entitled to claim travel expenses for any additional mileage incurred when travelling to other schools, compared with your normal journey to Smestow Academy. The specific days and locations may vary depending on the IT support requirements of the individual schools and the availability of their Headteachers. The successful candidate will therefore need to demonstrate a flexible approach to their working pattern and be comfortable working across multiple school sites, including being able to reliably travel across sites. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing technical support in person, over the phone, and remotely
  • Logging, investigating, and resolving ICT support queries within agreed timeframes
  • Installing, upgrading, and maintaining hardware and software
  • Managing MS Teams, Outlook Groups, and network user accounts
  • Maintaining shared network areas and promoting good digital housekeeping
  • Supporting events such as assemblies, training sessions, and parent evenings
  • Checking IT equipment, replenishing consumables, and keeping asset registers up to date
    GCSE grade C (or equivalent) in English & Maths - A Levels or IT-related qualifications are a plus
  • Experience in an IT support role (school experience desirable but not essential)
  • Confidence with Windows 10, Microsoft Office, and ideally Office 365
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with both hardware and software
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and customer service skills
