A leading Data Center management firm in the United Kingdom is seeking a Manager Data Center responsible for the oversight of data center operations. This role requires proven experience in mission-critical environments, strong leadership abilities, and a commitment to operational excellence. The ideal candidate will oversee team management, ensure compliance with Health & Safety standards, and maintain critical site documentation. Qualifications

Job description
Overview

The Manager Data Center (MDC) is responsible for the management and performance of data center site(s), ensuring optimal reliability and aligning with the four pillars of our Operations Strategy: Service Excellence, Infrastructure Excellence, Sustainability, and Governance.

Responsibilities
  • Health & Safety Oversight:
    • Ensure adherence to the Quality Management, Environmental and Health & Safety Responsibilities Matrix.
    • Accountable for Health & Safety and governance compliance, including site induction, supplier permits, and relevant guidelines (e.g., SOC, ISO).
    • Ensure sites and assets are in good condition.
  • Operational Efficiency & Maintenance:
    • Operate the site as energy efficient as possible, collaborating with relevant functions.
    • Accurately monitor and manage performance systems.
    • Execute maintenance and customer service tasks (corrective, preventive, cross/disconnects, Remote Hands, customer inquiries, audits).
    • Manage alarm monitoring during office hours with ICT support (BMS/DCMS/GCAP).
    • Plan and allocate team resources (weekly/daily) to optimise utilisation.
  • People Management:
    • Manage team members, provide training, coaching and development opportunities.
    • Oversee site group budget for cleanliness and functionality.
    • Approve capacity requests for power, space, cooling and provide feasibility solutions when needed.
    • Accept/reject completed installation works from Implementation services and Projects.
  • Incident Management & Documentation:
    • Manage incidents to prevent disruption, reduce impact, and meet SLAs.
    • Ensure mandatory site documentation (SLDs, as‑built, SOPs, EOPs, MOPs, BCPs) is up to date.
    • Develop and maintain a Multi‑Year Site Plan including major maintenance tasks and asset replacement schedules.
    • Contribute to planning, budgeting and information sharing with Service Operations, Property Ops & Service Planning, and Project teams.
Qualifications
  • Proven experience in mission‑critical mechanical & electrical environments, preferably IT/Telecom.
  • Strong team leadership with direct and indirect report management.
  • Experience leading large teams through change.
  • Experience in technical facilities management and maintenance governance.
  • Familiarity with data centre infrastructure and industry standards.
  • Experience in Data Centres or similar environments.
  • Experience with maintenance management systems (Excel‑based or bespoke).
  • ITIL and/or ServiceNow knowledge is advantageous.
  • Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in English (written and verbal).
  • Commitment, high energy, adaptability, executor mindset, stress‑resilience, proactive, delegating, report writing and presentation skills.
